NORWICH – The Chenango Greenway Conservancy invites you to celebrate National Trails Day, June 5, on the Chenango Greenway Riverwalk Trail. National Trails Day is a long-standing celebration of America's magnificent trail system and its countless supporters and volunteers sponsored by the American Hiking Society. Norwich’s Riverwalk Trail Improvement is one of more than 1,500 events taking place around the country on National Trails Day.
This year the theme for National Trails Day is “Find Your Happy Place.” Where do you go to find peace and quiet and make your troubles melt away? Need a place to run or walk free of traffic? The Riverwalk Trail provides an easily accessible place to walk, run, bike and connect with nature, right here in downtown Norwich.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy encourages you to come explore the Riverwalk Trail on Saturday. Help improve a new section of trail north of the City that will connect with the existing trail along the western bank of the Chenango, or just come and enjoy a walk along the trail. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. at the city wells section of the Greenway, behind Weiler Park and Bordentown Circle. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is a non-profit organization based in Norwich working to enhance and preserve public access to open space by developing a network of public, multi-use, non-motorized recreational trails centered along the Chenango River and the historic corridors of the former Ontario & Western Railroad and Chenango Canal. Currently approximately five miles of trail is accessible within the City and Town of Norwich. Connections to the Finger Lakes Trail and Chenango Canal Association’s Chenango Canal Towpath Trail in Madison County are also planned.
