DVD Patrol

Everyone get on board, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol train is leaving the station and the conductor himself, the Toddster, has some interesting news as well as some excellent picks for this week. We’ve been making some new friends and setting up a few contacts to help us guide the Patrol a little bit better. More on that later. Look out the window because here you go!

New on DVD

The Wolfman - It’s often said that everyone has some kind of beast lurking inside of them. In Lawrence Talbot’s (Benicio DelToro) case, that’s putting it mildly. Talbot returns home to find out that his brother has been killed by some type of animal. Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins) is glad to see his son and Lawrence decides to see what he can find out about the killing. Also, he tells his brother’s wife Gwen (Emily Blunt) that he shall find out the truth. Soon into looking for information, Lawrence is attacked by an animal as well. The attack leaves a lasting effect on him as he begins to change into a werewolf. Will Lawrence find an antidote to this curse and is there more to the mystery than meets the eye? Hopkins will be seen next Summer in the live action film of “Thor” and Blunt can be seen in “The Adjustment Bureau” coming to theaters later this year.

Alice in Wonderland - When you do something a second time, there is always something you missed the first time or something you forgot to do. Alice (Mia Wasiskowska) goes to a party but she gets bored by it so she heads outside to see a strange site. She sees a white rabbit with a pocket watch? The strange part is this all seems very familiar to her. Alice follows him and finds herself back in a strange place she feels she has been to before. The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) soon arrives and tells her that the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) has taken over and imprisoned the White Queen (Anne Hathaway). The Hatter tells her that her return has been foretold and she will defeat a powerful dragon. The Red Queen knows if this happens, she will lose control. Will Alice be able to bring peace to the Wonderland and find her way back home? Depp will be seen and heard in upcoming projects including “The Tourist,” a new animated adventure called “Rango,” and as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4: Stranger Tides” in theaters next Summer.

Also on DVD

Burn Notice - The Toddster’s favorite spy is back as Season 3 comes to DVD. As the end of Season 2, Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) finally met up with the people who burned him and they told him that they had plans for him. He just wanted his life back and they said they would leave him alone. In the Season 3 opener, Michael has been caught by the Police after consulting with “Management.” Michael’s old friend Harlan comes along to bail him out. Michael knows he never does things without a motive. What does Michael’s “old friend” want in return? Seasons 1 and 2 are available on DVD in stores now with Season 4 now on Thursdays at 9 p.m. on the USA Network.

Karate Kid - Blu-Ray Spotlight returns with an old movie and is one of the Toddster’s longtime favorites. Daniel Laruso (Ralph Macchio) has just moved to California and is just trying to make friends. He catches the eye of Ali (Elizabeth Shue) but he also catches the eye of her ex boyfriend Johnny (William Zabka) and his friends too. They take every chance they get to torment him until one day he’s had enough but Daniel is outmatched until a mysterious handyman named Miyagi (Pat Morita) steps in to lend him a hand. After Miyagi defeats Johnny and his pals, Daniel gets to know him and Miyagi teaches him Karate so Daniel can fight in a Karate tournament. Will Daniel be able to learn the ways of Karate and finally rid himself of the bullies that torment him? Premiering next week, Will Smith produces a new version of “The Karate Kid” starring his son and Jackie Chan stepping into the role of Mr. Miyagi.

The Slammin Salmon - From the makers of “Super Troopers,” the Broken Lizard comedy troupe is back in action with an all new comedy. Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan) is the Heavyweight Champion of the World and he owns a seafood restaurant on the side. Salmon made a bet with the wrong guys and now needs $20,000 or else. So he tells his manager Rich (Kevin Heffernan) he had better get that money. Rich tells the staff that they will win a big prize if they do all they can to wait on the customers. Can Rich get the money and just what extremes will the staff go to win the big prize? Saturday June 5, at the Hamilton Theater, there will be a special screening of “The Slammin Salmon.” For details, contact Chuck Fox at (315) 824-8210.

Been a busy one for this week. I was able to see “The Slammin Salmon” and it’s a really funny movie. Get to the Hamilton Theater to check it out. A lot of great things on the way to the theater and on DVD. Join us next week. The Toddster will be back.
