Police release name of man killed in weekend crash

OXFORD – Police confirmed Tuesday that a McDonough man killed in a Sunday Town of Oxford accident was 39-year-old Hayden J. Proppe.
New York State Police reported that at around 10:28 p.m. Sunday along state Rt. 220, near the intersection of Sawmill Lane, Proppe lost control of his 1987 Chevy Suburban and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Chenango County Coroner Dr. Michael Waters after suffering massive internal injuries.
Police said the truck was negotiating a turn when it crossed the opposite lane of traffic, drove off the left side of the roadway and hit the tree.
Proppe was not wearing his seat belt and police said they are waiting results of a toxicology report.
The Oxford and Guilford Fire Departments responded and were forced to close down Rt. 220 for about three hours while crews extracted the victim and his vehicle. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Community Center, McDonough. Friends may call there on Thursday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
