Norwich basketball names scholar athletes

NORWICH – Members of the Norwich varsity basketball team were recently named to the New Balance Academic All-State team for the 2009-2010 season. To qualify, players must maintain a scholastic average of at least 90, and must have been named a first or second team all-star by their league, section or local media. In the front from the left are Casey Edwards and Josh Borfitz. Standing (left to right) are Derek Hughes, Seth Thomsen, Richie Bonney, and Andrew Austin. Norwich’s individuals were six of just 21 players selected, and the Tornado team was one of only two (along with Elmira Notre Dame) earning the distinction New Balance Team Academic All-State for 2009-2010. Additionally, Bonney was named to the New York State “Top 50,” an all-star nod given to the best players in the state. Bonney was one of only eight Class B players to earn that distinction.
