Smith’s condiments making headlines as gift for Father’s Day
NORWICH – Local entrepreneur and philanthropist Patsy Smith keeps making national headlines with her mustards, chutneys, vinaigrettes and fruit spreads, many of which were originally created in her own kitchen on West Hill in Norwich.
The June issues of “Food & Wine” and “O” magazines feature her Strawberry Black Peppercorn and Cherry Blackberry Sage and Clove spreadable fruits as the correct pairing for everything from grilled pork to frozen waffles. A recently launched national media campaign offers a 10 percent discount on special gift packages of Schoolhouse Kitchen products just in time for Father’s Day cookouts.
Schoolhouse Kitchen condiments are processed and packaged at Nelson Farms in Cazenovia. They are available locally at The Parson’s Daughter, 6 West Park Place, Norwich; Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Gift Shop,179 N. Broad St., Norwich; Norwich Implement, 5621 State Hwy 12; and Gallery 3-2-1, 41 State St. in Oxford.
Smith has been growing food and growing knowledge since 2004 when she launched Schoolhouse Kitchen with her widely-adored, signature mustard. Through the sale of its all-natural, gourmet products, the company’s mission is to support educational causes and programs. Funds have gone to secondary and private schools and to colleges in New York and Massachusetts.
Smith’s fundraising and volunteering on behalf of nonprofit health and education organizations have continued both locally and regionally. She has been an active board member of Chenango Memorial Hospital, the Auxiliary to Chenango Memorial Hospital, Chenango Valley Home, and the Norwich Family Y. She was a member and officer of Friends of Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown for 18 years before retiring this year. She also served on the Miss Hall’s board of directors for 24 years.
Smith currently serves on the boards of the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival and the Smith-Pioneer Gallery in Cooperstown.
In addition to her volunteering, Smith has taught cooking classes locally and is a member of the International Association of Cooking Professionals.
