CMH Foundation tourney raises nearly $33,000

NORWICH – A full flight of 36 teams participated in Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 13th annual golf tournament and picnic held May 28 at the Canasawacta Country Club.
“This tournament was outstanding,” said John Masse, co-chair of the event. “We changed the sponsorship levels a little, which enabled us to raise more money.” The event kicked off with Todd Anderson, of Chianis Anderson in Binghamton, winning $1,000 by sinking a 40 ft putt at the putting contest. Shooting a 58 in the captain and crew format, the tournament’s winners were Tom Emerson, Hugh Leonard, Greg LaMonica and Jason Golden. Second place and one shot behind at 59 went to Pat Flanagan, Mark DeMellier, John Mitchell, and Bill Flanagan.
Other tournament winners included Tom Knych, Closest to the Pin, at 10’5” on Hole #2; Lee Skillin, 2” from the line on Hole #15; and Hugh Leonard, who had the longest drive on Hole #6. For the first time, the Foundation held a special drawing for a spot in the Dick’s Pro Am, compliments of UHS. Lee Skillin won the coveted spot and will golf with the pros at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on June 23rd.
Perhaps the highlight of the tournament was the golf cannon designed and built by Garry Root. Positioned on Hole #17, teams bought chances to shoot a ball approximately 300 yards. “It was extremely popular,” said Masse, who assisted with the cannon dressed as Bill Murray in Caddyshack.
“We really appreciate our community and business partners who increased their support this year. They made it possible for us to establish a new fundraising record from this event,” said Masse. Major sponsors were NBT, Crothall, UHS, Bates Troy, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, Fust Charles & Chambers LLP, Siemens, Mang, Blueox, Morrison Management Specialists, Buffalo Hospital Supply, Mirabito Energy Products, Rentals to Go, and The Storage Center. After expenses, it is anticipated the event will clear well over $21,000.
The CMH Foundation seeks and manages public and private funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, civic organizations and governmental agencies to support Chenango Memorial Hospital activities. For more information, call 337-4510 or e-mail cmh_foundation@uhs.org.
