Local firefighters to hold annual Field Days, Fourth of July celebration

NORWICH – The Norwich Firefighters Field Days will kick off at 5 p.m. July 2 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, culminating Sunday night with a performance by national recording artist Jason Michael Carroll, followed by the annual Fourth of July Fireworks over the Fairgrounds display.
While there will be no cost of admission for Friday night’s festivities, which will feature a wide variety of rides and games, food, drink and entertainment by DJ Frank Goodrich, non-perishable food or monetary donations will be accepted at the gate, said Norwich Firefighters Association Vice President and Field Days co-chair Wayne Law.
Saturday and Sunday will offer those in attendance more of the same from noon to midnight, stated Law, who added Saturday will see the return of the popular Block Party, featuring live performances by local bands While Cities Sleep, L.J. Gates, The Solar Funk Society, K.T. and the Mad Dogs and Panhandle, and the crowd favorite Car Rollover Competition, beginning at 1 and 2 p.m., respectively.
“We’re still looking for cars for the rollover contest,” commented Law, who added the contest, now in its second year, awards participants $500 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.
Law said he was excited for Sunday’s concert and the weekend’s main event, which begins at 7 p.m. in the grandstand and features performances by Harpursville-based Hailey and Shawn, Nashville recording artist Cassidy Lynn and Sundown, and Jason Michael Carroll, whose debut album “Waiting in the Country” produced three Top 40 country hits.
Tickets for the July 4 concert are $10 from now through June 27 and admission to Sunday’s Field Days event is free for ticket holders, reported Law, who said attendees should be prepared for “a great weekend of entertainment that’s also affordable.”
Admission for Saturday and Sunday at the Norwich Firefighters Field Days is $5 with no cost for children under the age of 12. For more information, or to order tickets for Sunday’s concert, call 1-800-838-3006 or visit www.norwichfirefighters.com.
