Norwich's Dr. Parker Ward to retire

NORWICH – Dr. Parker J. Ward, Jr. will retire July 1 after 45 years of practicing medicine.
The well-known Norwich physician grew up here and early in his career, as a general surgeon, returned home to raise a family and work at his practice on East Main Street and at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency at Bellevue Hospital and New York University Hospital, both in New York City. His wife, Mary, said his love and pride for Norwich motivated him to return rather than accept a cardiovascular fellowship offered to him in New York City.
“We’ve been here ever since. Norwich has been a wonderful community in which to practice medicine and bring up kids,” she said.
Dr. Ward’s professional associations include membership in the American College of Surgery and he is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church.
In retirement, Dr. Ward and his wife plan to spend more time with their six children and 14 grandchildren in Norwich and at their home in Florida.
Dr. Ward’s longtime office manager Antoinette “Annie” Perkins said the thousands of patients Dr. Ward has served through the years will “be very crushed to lose him.” Records may be picked up at the office on East Main Street or be delivered to a patient’s chosen caregiver.
