Incumbents victorious in Oxford election

OXFORD – A handful of Oxford residents turned out on Tuesday to cast their votes in the village’s annual election.
In a three-way race for two vacant seats on the board of trustees, Incumbent Trustees Dale B. Leach and Laura L. Begeal beat out Republican challenger Hilary M. Wilcox.
Leach, a Republican, received 44 votes and Begeal, a Democrat, 33 to Wilcox’s 27. This will be Leach’s fourth consecutive elected term on the board, and Begeal’s eighth.
Incumbent Democrat Charles K. Race, who ran unopposed for his fifth term as Village Justice, received 47 votes.
According to Carol Franklin, democratic commissioner of the Chenango County Board of Elections, a total of 58 voters cast ballots in the election, held Tuesday at the Oxford Fire Station. This compares to 28 voters in each of the previous two years.
