Bainbridge brothers highlight Afton Fair rodeo this year

AFTON – If it’s excitement you want, it’s excitement you’re going to get at this year’s Afton Fair. New this year is the inclusion of a full-length rodeo – an evening full of adrenaline rushing entertainment.
Millennia-Entertainment, The Afton Fair, and T Bar T Rodeo present Thursday Night Thunder, a full live rodeo show. Bull riders and cowboys will take center stage at 7:30 p.m. July 22 at the fairgrounds. Headlining this year’s rodeo are two local favorites, Jesse and Jamie Griswold of Bainbridge.
Jesse and Jamie, who are 15 and 13, respectively, have both been participating in bull riding for eight years. The brothers are current members of the International Professional Rodeo Association and the American Professional Rodeo Association. After watching bull riding, Jesse says he and Jamie were drawn to the sport and hope to one day, become professional riders. The boys success, according to Jesse has been, in part, due to his family’s support.
“We saw it and wanted to try it. We told our mom and dad and they have stood behind us every step of the way,” said Jesse.
The boys have their pro-cards, meaning each are experienced riders and are recognized as such. In addition to bull riding, the boys will be taking part in the other aspects of the extended show. This year’s rodeo will include steer wrestling, bronc riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping and more.
“This year is more of a complete show, it’s more of what the people will want to see,” said Jesse. “We are hoping for a good turnout.”
Terry Potter, owner of Millennia Entertainment of New Berlin agrees that this show is sure to be one to attend. Potter said the full show will bring something for everyone.
“You know it’s going to be a quality event with the American Professional Rodeo Association sanctioning it. We are confident that this is going to sell out and sell out quickly. When you have a story line of two young local riders, 13 and 15, competing against some of the best and have a chance to win, that’s amazing.”
Tickets are $10 on sale now while supplies last, or $13 on the day of the show. Visit www.tickets.com or call 1-888-223-6000. Other local ticket outlets include the Afton Fair Office, Bainbridge Pharmacy, Video Entertainment of Sidney and Hayes Office Products of Norwich. Gate admission into the fair is not included with this ticket price.
