Earlville mayor arrested for grand larceny
EARLVILLE – Village of Earlville Mayor Toni Campbell was arrested over the holiday weekend, accused of grand larceny by her former employer, Chenango Valley Pet Foods of Sherburne.
New York State Police charged Campbell, 36, with third degree grand larceny, a felony, Friday. She’s accused of stealing more than $42,000 from the Sherburne pet food manufacturer by using a company credit card to purchase gifts and other items for herself. In addition to the grand larceny charge, Campbell is also charged with felony first degree falsifying of business records.
Campbell, who was recently let go from her position as the company’s financial manager, reportedly used the company’s line of credit to purchase a pickup truck, a four-wheeler, clothing, airline tickets and a vacation cruise, State Police reported.
The alleged thefts are not related to her position as Earlville mayor, police said, and she is not suspected of stealing from the municipality.
Campbell was released on $25,000 bail from the Chenango County Correctional Facility on Saturday.
She is set to appear in Village of Sherburne Court on Thursday at 7 p.m.
