County collects on delinquent properties
NORWICH – The tentative total taken in following Chenango County’s tax sale this year covered the amount that was owed in back taxes, penalties and interest plus some.
The June 24 sale resulted in bids on 44 parcels throughout the county that were in arrears for taxes, penalties and interest totaling just under $283,000. The county netted $73,278.62 on the sale minus staff, title search and other costs incurred by the county’s Real Property Tax Services office.
Chenango County Treasurer William Evans said Friday that “significant expenses” go into the sale and the results could change due to bid forfeitures.
