Calvary Baptist kids give to the homeless animals at the SPCA

By Deb de Oliveira

NORWICH – Calvary Baptist’s Kids4GOD has literally gone to the dogs! The kids in the Sunday morning hour put into practice what they learned by making and donating their homemade dog biscuits to homeless dogs at the Chenango SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
They delivered the biscuits that were made and graciously received a tour. The kids had an interactive learning experience, giving treats to the dogs and petting the cats. Their guide Chris gave an informative overview of the program and patiently answered our questions. The cat room is definitely a highlight with its sprawling branches and cozy nooks for kitties. The cats roam overhead where branches form a map of Chenango County. The SPCA is open to the public five days a week and I know my kids will be back.
The visit to the SPCA was in connection with what the children have been learning about responsibility and now in the month of July they will take it one step further and learn about service. Their memory verse for June gives a clear picture of the goal. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” Luke 16:10a NIV
Come and check out for yourself what is happening in the kid’s arena at Calvary Baptist on July 26-30. From 8:30-noon, Monday through Friday, children ages 3-13 will experience an intense week of Amazon summer fun in the rainforest, while impressing on their hearts the value of responsibility and service. Dads will bring the parables of Jesus to life for the elementary kids. The pre-school and kindergarten kids have a program all their own to match their learning styles and needs. The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park will bring tropical animals in their ZooMobile. Amigo, the Portuguese speaking capuchin monkey puppet will visit. There will be a wild and wet water slide along with tasty snacks, fun games and creative crafts that correlate with the Amazon theme. It’s a great week for kids to simultaneously learn about responsibility/service while playing in the middle of the “dog days of summer”!
