Shayne on You: Trust that the universe will provide
Dear Maggie,
I don’t have enough money, and I don’t see any way I can make any more. I’m working as many hours as I can, so there’s no way to get another job. I’ve begged for a raise, to no avail. I don’t see any way to spend less, either. I’ve cut back in every area I can think of. There’s no more fat to trim. And yet my basic living expenses are more than my paycheck, and I fall more deeply into debt with each passing month. I don’t know what to do. And I honestly don’t think there’s anything you can think of either, but at this point, I’ll try almost anything.
Thank you,
Hopeless
Dear Hopeless,
I don’t know how to make the sun rise tomorrow. I’ve tried pushing the planet around with my bare hands, but it’s more than one human being can do. It’s more than all of us could do. And yet, somehow, it will rise.
When you’re out of options, and see utterly no way out, you’re in the perfect place, because that’s the only time some of us are able to let go of the notion that it’s up to us to work it all out. We don’t need to figure out the details. We need to let go of the notion that x-number of hours equals x-number of dollars, and that there’s no way to change that. That mindset limits us, because what we believe is exactly what we experience. And yet some people earn billions. So what’s the difference between them and us? They expect more, they believe they’re capable of more. They don’t limit themselves. They’re hopeful, rather than hopeless.
So, try an experiment. Begin trusting that the Universe has the means to provide whatever you need. Notice how it provides plenty for the birds and the wildlife around you, and how they are intuitively able to find whatever they need. Trust it to do the same for you.
And since you can’t do much else, start working on improving the way you feel, and do so gradually, one step at a time. Shift your focus to the things that are going right, change all your negative statements to positive ones, start doing the things that cost nothing and yet make you feel a little bit better, and then a little better and then a little better. Reach for a feeling of relief. Tiny improvements will happen, and when you see them, let them be the proof to you that your efforts are working. And let that make you feel even better, and then you’ll see even more. Stop noticing lack, so much, and start noticing all you do have.
Before you know it, you’ll be experiencing hopefulness, followed by greater wealth. It will happen. It cannot fail.
And enjoy the process. It’s the most powerful discovery you’ll ever make.
