Smyrna woman still in critical condition after head-on crash
NORTH NORWICH – The cause of a head-on collision between a tractor trailer and a car driven by a Smyrna woman Friday remains unclear as New York State Police investigators await the woman’s recovery.
Trooper Neil Case, who responded to the incident, reported Monday that police believe a southbound 2006 Dodge Stratus driven by 39-year-old Rachel Baker of Smyrna veered across the yellow divide line and into the path of a northbound 18-wheeler.
The Norwich and North Norwich Fire Departments responded to the accident at around 11:38 p.m. Friday night along State Highway 12 in the Town of North Norwich, near the Chenango County Waste Management Facility.
Crews freed Baker from the wreck and contained a fuel leak before calling the LifeNet of New York Helicopter, based in Sidney, to rush Baker to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
