Grand jury indicts 10 with felonies

NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury met Wednesday and handed up several felony indictments against ten defendants.
At the proceedings, the District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute as a felon and the jury decides if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person. A grand jury indictment is not a conviction of guilt, and defendants will have the right to challenge the allegations against them in Chenango County Court.
• Parolees Robert E. Straight, 32, of Plymouth and Douglas J. Wilkinson, 30, of Norwich, were both indicted for third degree burglary, third degree criminal possession of stolen property and third degree grand larceny, all D class felonies.
The indictment claims the two men broke into the Country Store gas station at around 4 a.m. Aug. 15 and stole more than $5,500 in merchandise and cash.
Police said Straight was released from state prison Aug. 10 for a previous burglary conviction. He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail and Wilkinson in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Norwich police said White removed a number of prescription pain narcotics used prior to surgeries and then left the hospital. Police later developed a description and arrested Wright.

Crane violated the orders when he attacked the protected woman “by pulling her hair, choking her, throwing her on the couch and holding her down,” during an incident in the City of Norwich, according to the indictment.

According to the indictment, Davy was pulled over Aug. 2 along State Highway 206 in Town of Coventry and had a blood alcohol level more than double the New York State intoxication limit of .08.
The indictment stated that Davy pleaded guilty to a prior DWI felony charge in Chenango County Court in 2003.
• Geneia M. Rood was indicted for third degree welfare fraud, a D class felony, and first degree offering a false instrument for filing, an E class felony. According to the indictment, Rood filed a public assistance re-certification to receive $4,600 from Medicaid between June 2008 and September 2009 in the City of Norwich when she was receiving supplemental medical insurance from another source.
• James G. Ellis, 62, was indicted for operating a motor vehicle while having .08 of one percentum or more by weight of alcohol in this blood and driving while intoxicated, both D class felonies.
