Cory Seiler wins first Bluestone title
OXFORD – Cory Seiler, a 2010 Oxford Academy graduate, won his first Bluestone Golf Course men’s scratch championship finishing with a 5-over-par score over two rounds to edge older brother Scotty Seiler by two strokes last weekend.
Seiler fired a 3-under-par 67 in the final round – playing in a steady rain – to overcome a five-shot deficit to start the day. First-round leaders, Tom Muserilli, Chad Bradley, and Ryan Evans, all struggled with at least a one double bogey or worse during their respective days to drop out of contention.
Seiler and Seiler, who were playing together one group ahead of the leaders, were deadlocked at 7-over-par overall heading to the final two holes. Cory and Scotty each birdied the par-five 17th, but a birdie by Cory on the last hole combined with Scotty’s bogey proved the difference.
Muserilli was still in contention until a triple bogey on the par-four 16th hole pushed him three shots back.
In other divisions, Terry Finch claimed the men’s handicap finishing a net 3-under-par for two rounds. Tom Farrell was also 3-under-par to capture the men’s senior handicap, and Cara Bradley dominated the women’s handicap shooting a 4-over-par aggregate to win by 21 shots.
