BAINBRIDGE – Oxford made head coach Dennis Smith’s coaching debut a successful one.
Justin Schray scored twice in the first half, and added his third in the second 40 minutes to complete the hat trick. Adam Anthony and Austin Crandall also had goals for the Blackhawks, and Brandon McConnell made four saves in goal to record the shutout.
“We didn’t have many scoring opportunities in the beginning,” Smith said. “We started to work it around well to Justin, and he took care of it for us. We just have to continue to move the ball, and everything will be all right.”

COPES CORNERS – G-MU senior Tanya Barnes scored the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining to give her team its first win of the season on Thursday afternoon.
The Raiders trailed 1-0 at the outset, but received a fortunate bounce to tie the game at halftime. Lauren Hill’s header into the Worcester defensive zone was miscleared into the net to knot the game.
G-MU maintained a substantial edge in shot attempts, 27-12, but many of the shots were from long range, said head coach Kristen Bradbury. “We were definitely getting more shots, but we couldn’t connect with the goal,” Bradbury said. “Obviously we’re playing better, but there are a lot of things we need to work on.”
G-MU (1-0-1) plays at Franklin Tuesday.

UV’s Amanda Tumilowicz and Mackenzie Talbot scored first-half goals that were offset by the first of two Haley Witchella tallies. Witchella’s second-half goal sent the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, UV’s Sumi Gysin scored unassisted in the first minute of the extra period.
“We had some nice crosses that were right there that we did not redirect or finish,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle, whose club outshot UV, 18-13. “I’m not completely disappointed. Good things happened today, but there are some things we need to work on.”
Oxford plays at B-G next Wednesday.

BINGHAMTON – A day after its second scheduled match of the season was postponed due to excessive heat, it was the humid, hot conditions that played a role in the Tornado’s loss to Seton Catholic Central on Thursday.
At second singles, Chrissa Guy defeated Norwich’s Sophie Stewart when Stewart was forced to retire one game into the second set. Stewart led after winning the first set, 7-5, but suffered heat exhaustion systems and was pulled off the court by head coach John Stewart. “We were really whacked by the heat today,” Stewart said. “I wasn’t disappointed with our overall play, I was just disappointed with the result.”
Jessica Lerner had the Tornado’s lone victory taking her third singles match, 7-5, 6-4 over Taralynn Corino.
Norwich is at Windsor next Wednesday.

“We’ve had some tough luck against hot teams,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “We’ve had some very good scores, and our average is 197 through four matches, so the big picture is bright.”
Eric Walling had his best score this season in relation to par. Walling birdied three holes to shoot a one-under-par 35 and earn overall medalist honors. Jacob Kelly was three strokes back at 38, Frank Somich shot a 41, while Ryan Hagen and Corey Johnson came in with 44s.
