New pet groomer opens in Oxford

OXFORD – There a new place in town where ‘Maxine’ can get her nails done or ‘Buddy’ can get a great shampoo … it’s Oxford Grooming. Sorry, it isn’t a spa for people, they cater specifically in services for pets. If you’re a dog owner – of any breed – you need to check out the variety of professional services available, and Oxford Grooming is inviting you to come in and visit, especially during their Open House on Sept. 4.
The Oxford Grooming shop opened mid-August in the Navy Island Block at 16 Main St. by proprietors Lori and Rick Johnson. The Johnsons originally hail from the Garden State, but Lori has relatives in Oxford, so they recently decided to “follow the clan.” They have taken root here in Chenango County, including their four children who will be attending Oxford Academy. Together, Lori and Rick bring with them over 20 years in the pet care business; 15 years in grooming. Lori is a graduate of The North Jersey School of Dog Grooming and Rick is an experienced dog trainer.
You can come in just to get your dog’s nails trimmed, or get a “complete grooming,” which includes a nail trim, two baths, blow dry, ears cleaned (and plucked if needed), and a haircut (a sanitary cut if needed) or an undercoat removal. They’ll add a decorative bow or bandanna at the end, if you wish. You can even treat your pet to an oatmeal bath, or nail painting. Special grooming is sure to make your pup attractive, but it’s not all for pampering. Good grooming is a matter of health and hygiene.
Pets are groomed in clean, well lit areas where owners see the process, sit comfortably, and wait for the grooming to be completed. Right after, dogs can be taken home as soon as possible as this helps to avoid excess stress. Oxford Grooming prides itself on professionalism, quality and cleanliness. All of their tools and equipment are thoroughly sanitized after each dog. All dogs brought in must be current on their vaccinations to ensure their safety, the safety of other pets and the safety of Oxford Groomers’ staff. Lori and Rick really care about their four-legged, furry clients, so you can rest assured that they will do everything they can to make his/her grooming experience a positive one.
You’re invited to the Oxford Grooming Open House on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be giving free dogie nail trims, and offering cookie treats and beverages to their people.
You’re always invited to come in and say hello to “Gi-Gi,” their shop mascot. Gi-Gi is an energetic, cute-as-a-button, three-month-old Bichon Frise. She is lovable and great with children and other dogs. Oxford Grooming are a proud sponsor of the Chenango County's SPCA Dog Walk: “Did Somebody Say WALK?” and Alumni Parade on Oct. 2. The walk is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Weiler Park on Borden Avenue in Norwich. “Did Somebody Say WALK?” is your chance to get outside and walk with your dog all “fur” a good cause – supporting Chenango SPCA's mission to help the homeless and abused animals of our community. (Read more about the event, “pack” walking fund raising, prizes and more here - www.chenangospca.org/events.asp?id=7 ) Participants will have the opportunity to walk along the new Chenango Greenway Conservancy's River Walk Trail.
Oxford Grooming hours are: Tues - Fri: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Sat: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Closed Mondays and Sundays). Walk-Ins are welcome. Call: 843-PETS (7387); email: Lori@Oxfordgrooming.com. Visit them on the web at www.oxfordgrooming.com.
