DVD Patrol
Let’s not work too hard, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been recovering from the long Labor Day weekend and we’ve also been on TV overdrive the last few weeks. Hope everyone has enjoyed them but it’s time to get back to doing what we do best. The Patrol Guru, the Toddster, has just the right amount for you. Here we go to check our work!
New on DVD
Killers - Meeting your true love always has some perks. Of course, the perks that one person likes may not be the ones others are looking for. Take Spencer (Ashton Kutcher). Spencer could travel the World doing what he does best and could date all the women he could ever meet. Until he met Jen (Katherine Heigl). Spencer thought there wasn’t anyone who could make him hang up his lifestyle but Jen did it. Three years later, things are going pretty well until Jen finds out what Spencer did for a living. He used to be an assassin working for the Government and now someone has put out a contract on his life. How will Jen deal with this news and can she help Spencer stay alive? Heigl will be returning to “Grey’s Anatomy” premiering on ABC coming soon and Kutcher has some great comedies available on DVD including “What Happens in Vegas” (With Cameron Diaz), “Dude, Where’s my Car?” and “The Butterfly Effect.”
The Back Up Plan - Every plan has a few flaws. That’s why you need to back yourself up. Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) just can’t seem to find the right guy. Nothing she does seems to be working. She really wants to have a baby but it looks like she might be raising the little one alone. That is until she meets Stan (Alex O’laughlin). Zoe and Stan seem to hit it right off and usually when you mention the “B” word, it scares off a guy. Stan doesn’t scare so easy and even seems excited at the idea. They go about making plans for weddings and baby carriages. Their friends tend to think they’re moving a bit too fast. Will Zoe and Stan prove them wrong? Catch O’Laughlin this fall in the new action version of “Hawaii Five-O” coming to CBS on Monday Sept. 20.
Also on DVD
Dexter - Someone you know might have a strange hobby. Collecting stamps or coins may seem normal, but Dexter is anything but normal. Dexter (Michael C. Hall) works for the police in forensics but has something else he does with his nights. He moonlights as a serial killer, but he only goes after criminals. Interesting to say the least. In the Season 4 opener, Rita (Julie Benz) and Dexter have just had their baby. Now Dexter has to figure out where this new little guy will fit into his world and he also hears that a new serial killer (John Lithgow) has moved to Miami. What will Dexter do next? Seasons 1-3 are available on DVD with Season 5 opening Sept. 26 on Showtime.
NCIS Los Angeles - Even heroes need some good help. A couple of weeks ago, we previewed NCIS with the continued adventures of Agent Gibbs and his team operating from Washington. Now for the team operating on the West Coast, G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and his partner Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) head up this branch. Callen has just gotten back on the job after being nearly killed. Now Callen has to assist the team when a little girl is kidnapped. Has he recovered enough to solve the case? Join them on Sept.21 when Season 2 begins at 9 p.m. on CBS. Also, pick some new seasons on DVD of other shows including House (Season 6), Sons of Anarchy (Season 2), and the complete series of “Flashforward.”
The Vampire Diaries - A great TV show and one of the Toddster’s new favorites. Season 1 opens up in Mystic Falls where we meet Elena (Nina Dobrev). Elena and her brother have just moved in with her aunt after the death of their parents. Elena is getting ready to return to school where she meets Stefan (Paul Wesley). Stefan has come back to Mystic Falls after being gone for a number of years. 50 years, to be precise. He has a secret that no one knows - Stefan is really a vampire. Elena also looks like his old love, Katherine. Stefan also has to deal with his evil brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who wants to torment his little brother. Can Stefan find a way to connect with Elena? Season 1 is now available on DVD with Season 2 airing on the CW Network Thursdays at 8 p.m.
We’ve even managed to sneak a few more TV shows in there. Aren’t I sneaky? We’ve got a lot more movies on the way. I was able to catch the new George Clooney movie “The American” this week and it wasn’t exactly great. Seemed very boring and the story really didn’t go anywhere. Take a look at it and see what you think. The Toddster will see you next time.
