COPES CORNERS – Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton maintained the momentum from its Unadilla Valley Tournament win last weekend upending Laurens in a key early-season Tri-Valley matchup.
Despite dominating most of the game, the Raiders (4-1-1) needed a goal at the 26:47 mark to take the lead for good. Blake Stensland took a pass from Lauren Hill, and converted her shot from just outside the 18-yard box. Just over four minutes later, play was suspended due to thunder and lightning.
Miranda Hill lifted G-MU to a 1-0 lead scoring on a penalty kick in the first half. Overall, G-MU outshot the visiting team, 20-3. “Our offense has improved every single game,” said Raiders coach Kristen Bradbury. “We just went back to passing the ball instead of booting it. We’re getting a lot of movement with our passing, and every time we have an open shot, we take it.”
