Cyclones sweep 3 games

ROME – The Norwich Cyclones “A” team downed the Rome Colts 45-26 here Sunday, part of a three-game sweep.
It took the Cyclones one minute and 10 seconds to get on the board as Tristan Rifanburg took the opening kickoff to the Colts’ 10, and scored from the one yard line moments later.
John Marvin scored on a 26-yard pass from Cameron Edwards. Marvin also scored on a 45-yard scamper – all in the first quarter.
Rifanburg added to the Cyclones’ tally with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second. Marvin scored his third TD on a 39-yard sweep for 32-12 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, it was Carlos Ithier scoring on a three-yard plunge. Matt Craig took a Colts kickoff 61 yards to paydirt later in the half off great blocks from Spencer Stone and Killian Benedict.
Jordan Vinal passed for two extra points reaching both Benedict and Kevin Porack, and he also ran in his own conversion.
Marvin led the Cyclones rushing with four carries for 106 yards. Frank Sisco and Cole Brightman also ran for good yardage.
The defense was led by Craig and Rifanburg, with Vinal, Dan Macintosh, Alec Weaver, and Dakota Nelson contributing. Nick Murphy, Marvin and Edwards all had fumble recoveries.
The Norwich Cyclones’ “C” team prevailed over Rome 27-6, with Carter Rudnitski opening scoring in the first from 10 yards out. Marcus Benjamin scored from the one, with Ryan Borden adding the point after. Benjamin added a 45-yard scamper for a TD in the second, complemented by the Drew Walsh conversion on a pass from Ty Rifanburg to build the halftime score to 20-6.
Rudnitski added a 39-yard TD run in the third, with Borden once again adding the conversion run.
Ian Stone, Cameron Ivan, Borden, Benjamin, Tom Parrella, Robert Stone, Rifanburg, and Alex Wehrli played big “D” for the Cyclones with interceptions by Rifanburg, Austin Foulds, and Benjamin, and fumble recoveries by Rudnitski and Ivan.
The Cyclones’ “D” team was also in Rome controlling the Colts in a non-score keeping scrimmage.
The Cyclones’ “B” team, meanwhile, was in Herkimer on Sunday, and came away with its first win, 32-6. Jakob Franklin had two TD runs for the Cyclones, with Jake Walsh adding a 50-yard TD run. Zack “Sunshine” Race added a QB one-yard keeper for a score. Joshua “Little Zeus” Mioduszewksi closed the Cyclones’ TD parade with a 40-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.
Cole Rifanburg and Paden Burlison added point-after conversions.
The defense was led by Brennan Slater, Carter Hubbard, Burlison, and Rifanburg.
The Cyclones’ “B” team plays Saturday, Sept.18 in Little Falls in an evening matchup at 7:30 p.m. The Cyclones’ D, C and A teams are in Camden for 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. games – also on Saturday.
