Greene's Day has hat trick in shutout win

GREENE – Andrea Day, who has served more as a playmaker the first four games, had her breakout game this season scoring three times for the Trojans in a shutout over Walton Tuesday.
Day had the final goal of a 3-0 first half, and tallied twice in the second half. “We played pretty well, but I thought Walton was good and their tackling was very skilled,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “They’re a young team that lost a lost of good seniors, and they’re reloading.”
Greene (5-0), who has blanked all five opponents, scored 2:50 into the game when Abbey Wentlent banged home a shot off a penalty corner pass from Brandee Schoonmaker. Schoonmaker upped the lead to two just five minutes later, this time Jahna Driscoll played the role of set-up person.
The Trojans are at Vestal on Thursday and travel to Afton Saturday.

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley coach, Ryan Houck, said it was nice to see the good play by his team reflected on the scoreboard.
The Storm won for the first time this season scoring the game’s lone tally just 7:20 into the second half. Nate Mackey hit a long pass to Brett Smith, who reached the ball at the 18-yard box, and scored with a shot into the near post.
Kyle King, UV’s eighth-grade keeper, picked up the shutout win. King stopped a Hunter Sowersby breakaway in the first half, and added a diving save off a hard shot from the Warriors’ Tanner Genung.
“It was also nice to end this long stance of games,” Houck said. “We’ve played seven games in 12 days, and we finally get a little rest before our next game on Saturday at Afton.”

GREENE – Greene ran its record to 6-0 on the season as seven different Trojans figured in the scoring.
Alex Driscoll and Mikki Brown each had hat tricks for Driscoll, he raised his season goal total to 16. Dylan Elliott, Nate Patrick, and Evan Moxley had tallies for Greene, who received three assists from Brian Hebbard, and a single assist from Corey Dietrich.
“We’re getting some good team chemistry going on,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “A lot of people think it’s all about Driscoll, but it’s more than that, and it’s evident by the scoring.”
Greene plays at Oxford Thursday at 7 p.m.

MILFORD – Milford rallied for two goals in the final nine minutes to squeak by G-MU Tuesday afternoon in Tri-Valley League play.
Jon Scofield had an unassisted tally for the Raiders with 15:47 left in the second half. Gideon Powers tied the game for the Wildcats at 8:53, and Andrew Yerdon scored unassisted with just 1:27 remaining.
The Raiders play Norwich Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the first round of the Oxford Tournament.

DELHI – Carson King scored the first of his two goals eight minutes into the game, and Delhi went out to shut out B-G (2-5) on Tuesday.
“They have a well-stocked team, and they just wore us down,” said B-G coach Pete Feltham. “They build (their offense) well out of the midfield.”
King and teammate Nick Meehan – who also had one goal – overlap on offense from the midfield, creating numerous opportunities for their team, Feltham said.
B-G is off until a Tuesday road date at Greene.

CANASTOTA – Corey Arner scored in the first 10-minute overtime to end the contest in Tuesday’s game against Sherburne-Earlville.
S-E, down a goal at halftime, pressed forward, and scored the tying goal with 19 seconds left in regulation. Carter Cole’s deep throw-in into the penalty box was misplayed by the Canastota keeper, who batted the ball into his own goal.
The Marauders host Sauquoit Valley on Thursday.

Ben Conklin netted his second goal of the game, and Tim Maguire added an insurance goal for the Warriors. “We’ve lost two in a row, but not for lack of effort,” said Oxford coach Dennis Smith. “We lack the subs, so by the second half, most of them are pretty tired and it’s hard to close the deal.”
Justin Schray scored off an Evan Landau pass in the first half for Oxford’s lone tally.

Jordan Griffiths and Emilie Mertz had goals for the Wildcats, who outshot G-MU, 15-6. “We haven’t played well the last three games and the aggressiveness hasn’t been there,” said G-MU coach Kristen Bradbury.
The Raiders host Richfield Springs on Friday.

NORWICH – Winless a season ago, Norwich continued its turnaround in 2010 with its third win of the season beating CV on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.
“I go back to all of the hard work we put in during the offseason,” said Norwich coach Shelly Alger. “We’ve made some adjustments in positions, and the girls are learning what it is to be a team. Everybody is doing their part.”
Sophomore Taylor Cook had five kills to go with two aces. Jasmine Whitfield had a team-high five assists and four aces. Lexi Perez had four aces and three kills, while Rhea French finished with three assists, and Laura Zagada served three aces.
Norwich had 17 total aces and 12 kills in the match, Alger said.
Norwich is at Chenango Forks Thursday.

CONKLIN – Greene saw a huge spike in its depth points, and combined with eight wins in 12 events, defeated Susquehanna Valley in a non-league swimming meet Tuesday.
Jessica Brooks continued to pile up the victories winning two individual events and teaming on two winning relays. Jenny Yeager, Katie Shear, and Shelbe Stoppkotte added wins for the Trojans (2-3), who also swept the three relays.
“Even if we hadn’t won, I would have been pleased,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “We had some really good time drops. It was a happy bus ride home.”
Platta said he made some lineup adjustments that paid off right away. “We wanted to get the depth points that we have been missing out on, and the younger swimmers really rose to the occasion.”
Greene is at Oneonta on Thursday.
