Cyclones win two games on the road

CAMDEN – The Norwich Cyclones “A” team downed the Camden Blue Devils 25-7 in Camden Saturday night, part of two road wins for Norwich last weekend in Pop Warner play.
The A team scored quickly on a 55-yard sprint to paydirt by Killian Benedict 45 seconds into the game on the game’s second play. John Marvin Jr. added a 15-yard TD jaunt and Matt Craig galloped for 56 yards to score for an 18-0 Cyclones halftime lead. The Cyclones rushed for 231 yards on 20 carries in the first half alone.
Tristan Rifanburg scored on a 28-yard scamper in the third, with Benedict adding the point-after to end Norwich’s scoring.
The stiff Cyclones defense was led by Craig, Rifanburg, and Marvin, with Spencer Stone, Nick Murphy, Alec Weaver, Carlos Ithier, Everett Thompson, Dan Zieno and Dakota Nelson, as well as the entire Blue and Gold defensive units., who played big “D.”
The Cyclones’ “C” team remained undefeated topping Camden, 29-7.
Marcus Benjamin opened Cyclone scoring with a five-yard, firstquarter TD run, with Drew Walsh adding the PAT on a pass from Ty Rifanburg. The Cyclones also scored on a safety.
Rifanburg returned a Blue Devils’ punt to the 10 with Tim Thompson scoring from the one yard line. Ty Rifanburg put the Cyclones on the board again in the second on a six-yard TD run. Ryan Borden added the point-after run for a 22-0 halftime lead.
Benjamin ended the Cyclones’ scoring in the fourth, returning Camden’s kickoff to the 30, and scoring on the next play. This time, Carter Rudnitski added the conversion run.
Benjamin, Walsh, Bryce Marvin, Noah Marvin, Scott Manwarren, Austin Foulds, and Alex Wehrli stopped the Blue Devils on defense. The Cyclones’ C team faces Northern Community (Holland Patent) on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a matchup of undefeated teams.
The Cyclones’ “D” team had its way with Camden in a non-score keeping, controlled scrimmage.
The Cyclones’ “B” team was not in Camden, but was in Little Falls for a first-ever meeting Saturday night. The Cyclones fell 25-18 in a hardfought seesaw battle. The Cyclones scored first on a 68-yard run by Cole Rifanburg. Dalen “Gunny” Geislinger scored on a two-yard run, with Jakob Franklin adding a six-yard run to paydirt to complete the scoring.
The Cyclones’ defense was led by Jake Walsh, Paden Burlison, and Ben Scheer.
The Cyclones had a fine goal line stand, stopping Little Falls at their one yard line, only to turn the ball back over to Little Falls inside the Cyclone ten.
After two weeks on the road, the Cyclones return to Alumni Field. The D team plays Northern Community at 9 a.m., the C team plays at 11, the B team meets Canastota at 1 p.m., and the A team plays Cazenovia at 3 p.m.
