Oneonta comes on strong in second half

NORWICH – Norwich’s defense held off Oneonta for nearly 60 minutes, then the floodgates opened over the final 22:57 of play.
Connor Brown unlocked a tie game after Norwich goalie David Layman made an initial save, but the Norwich defense failed to clear the ball out. Eric Deemer picked up the loose ball and crossed it to Brown for the tally. Deemer added a goal as well to go with two assists. “We played a lot of defense in the game, and David made some unbelievable saves in the first half,” said Norwich coach John McCumiskey.
The Tornado play G-MU Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Emerson Fields in Oxford in the first round of the Oxford Blackhawks Tournament.

MADISON – Brent Rasmussen had two goals for the Vikings Wednesday, who improved their record to 5-1 with a shutout win at Madison Wednesday.
Dusty Davis and Brandon Huntley added one goal and one assist apiece. “We controlled almost the entire game, and that surprised the daylights out of me,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “We’ve had a hard time up there (in Madison) in the past. Today our kids passed it well, we got to the ball, we made good passes, and we took good shots when we had them. It was a good game and a good effort.”

WATERVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville, who have already far surpassed last year’s accomplishments, added another notch to the win column blanking Waterville Wednesday.
“We thought this would be a pretty tough game, and we were ready for it,” said S-E coach Kylie Davis. “This was a pivotal game for us. We needed to prove ourselves to that team (Waterville).”
After a scoreless first half, S-E’s Bridget Irwin broke the ice just 5:31 into the second half. Irwin took the ball from the left side into the middle, and fired a hard shot into the left corner of the net. The victory improved S-E’s mark this season to 7-2.

Unadilla Valley 4, Sidney 1
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley remained unbeaten against Midstate Athletic Conference competition topping Sidney at home on Wednesday.
Amanda Tumilowicz scored the Storm’s first two goals. The first game just 2:55 into the game, and she added the second goal 13 1/2 minutes later to stake her club to 2-1 halftime advantage.
“We passed the ball pretty well and did a better job going to the open spaces,” said UV coach Janelle Ross. “Amanda’s first goal was a beautiful shot. She came down the right side of the field, and hit a shot into the far upper corner.”
UV (5-0, 7-2) expanded its lead in the second half as Charlee Weidman and Taylor Davis tacked on insurance goals.

Julie Heggie and Baillie Lamariana tallied for Oxford.
