OXFORD – Oxford advanced to the finals of its own tournament getting the game-winning goal from Haley Witchella Thursday night against Norwich.
Witchella gathered a pass with her back to the goal, turned, and hit a soft shot into the left corner with 10:02 left in the game.
Norwich had tied the game just 6 1/2 minutes earlier when Alyssa MacIntosh tallied for the Tornado. “Our possession game was better today, and Norwich did a good job too,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle, who played in high school for Norwich coach Dianne Fiorina at South New Berlin. “She gave me a big hug after the game, and told me it was kind of like she won too.”
Teresa Morrison scored unassisted 8:36 into the second half to give Oxford the initial lead. The Blackhawks (2-3-1) will play the winner of Unatego and Greene on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Norwich 3, Chenango Forks 2
NORWICH – Norwich won its second game this week outlasting Chenango Forks in five games, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21.
The Tornado had 23 total aces and 26 kills in the win. “It took us a while and it wasn’t always pretty, but we got it done,” said Norwich coach Shelly Alger. “The rallying back and forth was very good on both sides. It came down to who made the mistake.”
Norwich’s Taylor Cook had a team-high 11 kills, Rhea French led NHS with 14 assists, and Megan Moses served a team-high eight aces.
Norwich (4-2) faces Windsor next Thursday.

VESTAL – Still unscored on this season, Greene tallied four goals in the first half to post its sixth win of the season.
The Trojans’ first three goals all came after penalty corners. Jahna Driscoll drilled a shot into the cage at 24:50, and Emily Conroe came right back with a goal following a Driscoll shot just 44 seconds later. Abbey Wentlent made it a three-goal lead. Driscoll added two more goals to complete her hat trick.
“I thought we played really well, and this game was our toughest competition,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “It was a good game and we needed to be tested. Vestal came out tough in the second half, and we knew they would.”
Greene plays at Afton on Saturday.

SHERBURNE – Sauquoit Valley’s Tyler Denton scored a pair of goals in the first half staking his team to a halftime advantage over Sherburne-Earlville Thursday.
“It was a much better effort, but Sauquoit is one of the better teams in the division,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “Benton had two great shots to get them going.”
S-E (2-6) plays at Ilion on Saturday.

 OXFORD – Oxford evened its record at 3-3 on the season defeating Walton Thursday.
Kristen Audas overcame a loss in the first set to beat Walton’s Rachael Holden in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-5. Annmarie Paster also won at singles for the Blackhawks, and the doubles team of Hailey Branham and Molly Rice won in straight sets.
