The Slambovian Circus is coming to Oxford this Saturday

OXFORD – On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to present Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams! Singled out as Hudson Valley Magazine’s “Band of the Year” for the past three years; on stage, Gandalf Murphy creates an enchanting atmosphere, using traditional folk instruments, tasty electric guitar and distinctive singing and songwriting.
In 1998, The Circus emerged from the misty hills of Sleepy Hollow, and exploded upon the Hudson Valley music scene with their stunning self-produced debut release, “A Good Thief Tips His Hat.” The quirky quartet then began touring throughout the northeast and rapidly developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following.
Featured recently in Relix Magazine, the New York Times and on the CBS hit show, Joan of Arcadia, the band’s charismatic live performances and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike.
Lead singer and songwriter Joziah Longo (baritone singer, guitars, harmonica), is responsible for the band’s distinctive sound. He grew up playing traditional country, folk and mummers music with his father. Performing professionally from the age of 13 doing Dylan covers, he moved to New York to pursue his muse. Citing influences as diverse as Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd, Longo describes the band’s music as “punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd; a mental rollercoaster of whimsical, thought-provoking songs.”
The following musical talents are the tasty ingredients that help to cook up the band’s artistic magic. Complementing Longo are his wife, Tink Lloyd (accordion, cello, flute, theremin); “The Longo Twins,” Chen (bass, backing vocals) and Orien (synthesizer keyboards, backing vocals, percussion); Sharkey McEwen (guitars, mandolin, backing vocals); and Tony Zuzulo (percussion).
Fern MacDonald, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, stated of Gandalf Murphy, “I was instantly mesmerized. In a word, they are magnificent!”
Come and get energized! Tickets are $22 until the day of the show; $25 the day of the show. Ticket price for students is always $2; please call to make a student reservation! Doors open one hour prior to show time. For further information, call 843-OTS6 (6876) or visit www.6onthesquare.org .

Upcoming events: 6OTS’ Wine Tasting Fundraiser, Sunday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sample wines while supporting programs at 6OTS. Oct. 2, 2 p.m, is a Drumming Workshop with Chuck Woods, percussion extraordinaire.
