DVD Patrol

Let’s change things up, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been driving down the highway watching the leaves change color and wonder where the summer went. Your driver, the Toddster, is leading the way with some good ones and the Golden Avenger is here with some friends. I hope everyone enjoyed our Michael Douglas salute last week. Time to go changing!

New on DVD

The Karate Kid - Starting over somewhere new is never easy, but it’s a part of life. Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) is about to learn this lesson the hard way. Dre’s mother (Taraji P. Henson) is about to start a new job in China and he’s not excited about moving to a whole different part of the World. When he gets there, he discovers things aren’t all bad when he meets a young girl named Mei Ying (Wenwen Han). Of course, it’s probably a universal law that there is always someone who’s not so nice. Dre is about to learn another fact an even harder way when he meets up with the tough group in the neighborhood led by Cheng (Zhenwei Wang). Dre tries to make peace with him but it just doesn’t do any good. Now Dre has become a target. After Dre meets the local handyman Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), he’ll have to work even harder than before. Mr. Han is a master of Kung Fu and decides to teach Dre what he needs to make it. Han decides to Dre can only put a stop to the bullying is to fight in a local tournament where Cheng is the local champion. Can Dre win the fight? Sources tell me that a sequel is already in the works for Smith and Chan to reunite. Stay tuned!

Iron Man 2 - The Golden Avenger returns to action. Robert Downey Jr is back as Tony Stark and  this time he’s up against a number of new enemies. When we left him, Tony had just revealed to the world he’s really Iron Man. Now not only does the government want to take his armor, someone from his father’s past wants revenge for wrongs committed against them. Anton Vanko (Mickey Rourke) comes on the scene as Whiplash and has appeared to give Iron Man a run for his money. After Shellhead takes care of him, competing businessman Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) takes Vanko away to plan even more trouble for Stark. Also, Tony has to figure out a way to survive when the device that saved his life is also killing him. He’s got plenty of help this time around with his lady love Pepper Potts (Gwenyth Paltrow), his pal Rhodey and War Machine (Don Cheadle), and secret agent the Black Widow (Scarlet Johannsen). Will Iron Man be able to save the day and himself? Downey is on his way to film the sequel to “Sherlock Holmes” but will be returning as Iron Man in “The Avengers” set for release in Summer 2012.

Also on DVD

Legendary - Things are never easy when you feel you have something to prove. Cal Chetley (Devon Graye) was always the kid getting picked on and no one really took him seriously. Both his father Mac and his big brother Mike (John Cena) were successful in wrestling. After a family tragedy takes the life of his Dad and Mike decides to leave home, Cal’s life takes a sudden turn. Wanting to change it, Cal wants to make his mark in the sport that his family has lived for. Granted that Cal isn’t the biggest but he shows he has a lot of heart. Cal urges Mike to come back because he needs his help and if anyone can help him win, it’s his big brother. Does Cal have enough heart to win it all? Cena shows he has a another side to his acting ability on this one. Also, you can see him in a couple of the Toddster’s favorites including “The Marine” and “12 Rounds” available on DVD now.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse - Cartoon Spotlight is here with two of the Toddster’s favorite heroes. When we last left our heroes, Superman and Batman had just taken on Lex Luthor who framed Superman for murder and almost destroyed the Earth with a giant kryptonite asteroid. The asteroid had a surprise inside of it with a ship from Superman’s home planet of Krypton. It had a passenger named Kara and now she has come to find her cousin. Batman is a little suspicious of her and doesn’t know what to make of her. To help her get a handle on Earth life and her new powers, Batman recruits the help of Wonder Woman. Kara has also come to the attention of Darkseid, a powerful ruler of the Planet Apokolips and a sworn enemy of Superman. Darkseid takes Kara prisoner and Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and their ally Big Barda must travel to Darkseid’s planet to save Kara. Will they be able to do it? The next animated movie on the way is “All Star Superman” heading to DVD in early 2011. Also, my sources have told me that a new Wonder Woman TV series may be replacing Smallville by next year. More on this as it develops.

A Nightmare on Elm Street - Everyone is afraid of someone or something. Being afraid to go to sleep isn’t exactly a great place for that to happen. Especially when dealing with the likes of Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley). Krueger was someone who hurt kids until he got off on a technicality and now the parents of the kids he hurt went after him. They burned him in the place where he hurt them. Now he has returned as something much worse when he goes after them a different way. In their dreams. He targets Nancy (Rooney Mara) and Quentin (Kyle Gallner). After their classmates start to die, Nancy and Quentin know they have to find a way to stop Freddy once and for all. Can they do it without falling asleep? A sequel to this one is already in the works. Also, we also reported recently that Human Target would be starting but plans have changed and will be starting with Mark Valley and Haley on Wednesday Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. on Fox.

The color scheme is done for another week. Before we go, the salute we had last week was to be dedicated to a special friend of mine named Karen. She recently lost her mom Barbara to cancer and that was to be for her. Let’s dedicate this one full of heroes to her. Talk to you next time!
