UV rallies to tie Oxford

Unadilla Valley 3, Oxford 3
NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit, and scored the tying goal with three seconds left in regulation to force a deadlock with Oxford Wednesday night.
UV, leading MAC’s division two, fell behind in the first half after Oxford’s Julie Heggie scored twice. “We weren’t marking as well in the first half and we needed to communicate better,” said UV coach Janelle Ross. “I told (the team) to stay positive and play our game. Once we scored our first goal, you could see everyone pick up the energy.”
Emily Hutchinson had the first goal for UV, and Mackenzie Talbot tied the game. Oxford would regain the lead behind a Haley Witchella goal before Taylor Davis netted the equalizer as time was running out.
UV (7-1-1, 9-3-1) can virtually lock up the MAC Division II title Friday with a win at home against Bainbridge-Guilford.

Cincinnatus 7, Otselic Valley 0
CINCINNATUS – About four weeks ago, Cincinnatus needed overtime to outlast Otselic Valley. Wednesday, the Red Lions dominated the Vikings from start to finish as Jacob Manley scored twice in the first half leading his club to a 5-0 lead in the opening 40 minutes.
“Our cohesiveness isn’t what we needed it to be, and we were ready tonight to play a team like Cincinnatus,” said OV coach Dave Loomis.
The Vikings (10-3) host George Jr. Republic on Monday.

GREENE – Greene won the consolation game of its own tournament blanking Windsor Wednesday afternoon.
Alex Driscoll scored a pair of goals as did Mikki Brown. The Trojans were able to bounce back quickly 24 hours after suffering their second league loss of the season falling to Unatego Tuesday on the road.
Cody Shapley added a goal for the Trojans.

NORWICH – Johnson City scored its first goal after a long punt from the goalie, and went on to defeat the Tornado Wednesday night.
Kyle Kocan gathered goalie Dominick Vitale’s long punt in the middle of the field. He moved toward the middle and connected with a left-footed shot just inside the right side of the goal post at 30:02. Ten minutes later, Antonio Kadylak scored, and Hans Purtell put in a header with just eight minutes remaining in the opening half.
“They have a good club. They’re vying for first place, and they made sure they weren’t going to lose,” said Norwich coach John McCumiskey. “We played a good second half, and Nate (Perry) made some nice saves.”
Norwich hosts Afton Monday at 7 p.m.

SV outshot the Marauders 25-2 in the contest.

CONKLIN – Norwich clinched its first division title in over 10 years beating Susquehanna Valley Wednesday at the Conklin Players Club.
Eric Walling, Frank Somich, and Jacob Kelly went one-two-three for the Tornado (12-4) shooting 40, 41, and 42 respectively. Corey Johnson added a 45 and Ryan Hagen a 46.
Norwich can match the highest win total in head coach Bob Branham’s tenure with a win at Oneonta Thursday.

Cross Country

S-E boys sweep
HERKIMER – At Herkimer Community College, Sherburne-Earlville’s boys placed four among the top-eight finishers, and swept victories over Herkimer, Canastota, and Remsen Wednesday afternoon.
Dan Palmiter finished first overall for S-E in 19:19, and Dakota Nelson was a close second at 19:25. “It was a nice night for the boys,” said S-E coach Anne Geary. “We seemed a little disjointed before the race, but sometimes the best things come out of those situations. We went out and ran a solid race.”
Sofeia Eddy led S-E’s girls placing third overall out of 23 runners timing 22:17 over the 3.1-mile course. The Marauders are at New Hartford Saturday.

GREENE – Unadilla Valley’s sweep of doubles combined first Lindsay Avolio’s victory at first singles gave the Storm a road win over Greene Wednesday.
Shaylem Bonney and Paige Taylor won singles matches for the Trojans.
Abby Grace-Carly Beadle took the first doubles final, and Amanda Leech paired with Kiran Burst for a victory at second doubles.

AFTON – Greene traded games with Afton before winning the final two to beat the Crimson Knights Wednesday, 19-25, 25-22, 11-25, 25-13, 25-22.
Marissa Pierce had 14 kills for the Trojans (6-2) and Jess Willard finished with eight assists and a team-best three aces.
Cassie Prezorski topped Afton racking up 26 assists, eight kills, and six aces. Britt Moore also had six aces to go with seven kills. Afton’s record falls to 4-4 in league play.
