Solar Funk Society new on the local music scene

NORWICH – The Sherburne-based Solar Funk Society is a rarity in Chenango County these days, as it’s not too often local music lovers have the chance to experience some true-to-form, old school funk mixed with modern dance and disco.

That will be the case on Friday as the group makes its second appearance at the Blarney Stone Pub, and guitarist Mark Sherwood said he and the band are ready for a good time.

Formed in the spring of 2010, the four-piece funk ensemble were just starting out when they first appeared at the Blarney Stone, and owner Sarah Woods said she’s “really excited to have them back.”

With influences ranging from James Brown to Joe Stone, the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Stevie Wonder, Prince and the Jackson 5, the members of Solar Funk Society are out to show local fans of “the funk” just how much they’ve improved since their first visit.
