DVD Patrol
Are you scared, Patrollers? On our trip for this week, the DVD Patrol has taken the chance to bring some scary new ones to you that may you scare you a little or a lot depending on how brave you are. The Scaremaster himself, the Toddster, has had a lot of experience in this area. We’ve even found an old TV favorite that might do something for you. Grab that special something or someone, because here we go.
New on DVD
How To Train Your Dragon - A lot of people have different kinds of pets. Hiccup (Jay Buruchel) always had a great sense of humor and light hearted way going through life. His father doesn’t think too much of it but her tries to make the best of it. He decides to include his son in dragon training thinking it will make a man out of him. Hiccup finds a dragon who’s hurt and nurses him back to health. Dragons and humans have always been enemies. Hiccup and his new friend have a chance to change all that. Can they change the thinking of the tribe and make a new way to live? Buruchel can be seen with Nicholas Cage in “The Sorceror’s Apprentice” coming to DVD on Nov. 30 and will be featured in a future patrol.
Predators - The ultimate hunters of the galaxy are back in action. Even they need training. That’s what they do when they kidnap a group of people including Royce (Adrien Brody), Isabel (Alice Braga), and others who are armed to the teeth from other walks of life. They certainly don’t trust each other but to survive this game, desperate times call for desperate measures. The Predators in this hunt are tougher than ever before. Are Royce and the others up for this one or have they become more the prey than the hunters? Some of my all time favorite Predators movies available on DVD include “Predator,” (with Arnold Schwarzenegger), “Predator 2” (starring Danny Glover), and “Alien vs. Predator.”
Also on DVD
Splice - What people will do to further science. That’s what happens when Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) are working on. Genetic engineering is their field and they think they have made a breakthrough when they produce a new lifeform with animal and human DNA named Dren (Delphine Chaneac). They’re not sure what will happen next and a constant danger that they’ll be found out. Dren is also evolving at a fast rate. What will they try next? Another scary one along the same lines is “My Soul to Take” from Wes Craven who is hard at work on “Scream 4” coming out in April 2011.
Jonah Hex - There are some people in this world you don’t want to cross. Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) happens to be one of those guys. Hex was a soldier during the Civil War who fought for the South until his commanding officer Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) tried to hurt women and children in a hospital. Hex turned him in and that was the end of his career. Turnbull didn’t take too kindly to this. After the war, he tracked Hex down to take his revenge and his family paid the price. Hex was also scarred by Turnbull. Hex tried to find him, but found out later Turnbull was killed in a fire. Years later, Hex has become a bounty hunter and the U.S. government needs his help when he finds out that Turnbull is really alive. Can Hex find him and avenge his family? Malkovich teams up with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren for the new movie “Red” now in theaters.
The Bionic Woman - In every great relationship, there is a great woman. Just ask Steve Austin (Lee Majors). When Steve was between missions, he returned home to find his old high school sweetheart Jamie Summers (Lindsey Wagner). Steve and Jaime were able to pick up where they left off years earlier. During an afternoon of skydiving, Jaime had an accident and Steve knew there was only one way to save her. He begged his boss Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) to make her bionic. He agrees and the operation seems to be a success until Jaime’s body starts to reject her bionics. Her doctors manage to save her, but the ordeal seems to left her with amnesia and she doesn’t remember Steve. In the first two part episode, a mobster (Dennis Patrick) remembers Jaime when she tried to take down his complex with Steve’s help. He wants to recruit her for her special skills. Will she do it or does she have what it takes to be an agent? Season 1 is now available with Season 2 coming soon. The Six Million Dollar Man will also be offered by Time Life as a whole collection on Nov. 23.
Time to settle down for this week. A few choices for you to get your racing. Before we go, we’ll be busy in the next few weeks with more scares for you, including a Toddster team up with the crew and out favorite scary movies from the Master of Horror Stephen King. The Toddster will be back next week.
