Boys’ Soccer

Greene 5, Walton 0
WALTON – Greene won its second straight division tiebreaker game in convincing fashion Saturday, and will play Delhi for the overall Midstate Athletic Conference Wednesday at Delhi.
The Trojans topped Unatego two days ago, then routed Walton. The Spartans and Warriors handed Greene its two division losses during regular season play to force a three-way tie. “We sold the statement to the boys that we beat ourselves and put ourselves in this position,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “We needed to prove that this is our championship to lose.”
Alex Driscoll scored three times for Greene, the first after a nice give-and-go passing combination from Mikki Brown. Driscoll was able to split the Walton defense to tally at the 16-minute mark of the first half. Driscoll’s second goal came later in the half, this time after a Corey Dietrich through pass.
Dietrich and Brown each scored goals in the second half for Greene. “Give Walton credit. It’s a team with young talent and the kids play hard,” Tallman said. “It took us a little bit to get going as a whole, but our offense maintained control from the midfield on up.”
Greene will play its Section IV, Class C tournament playoff opener on Tuesday at home against Sidney at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday’s league championship at Delhi begins at 3:30 p.m.
