Local couple hosting haunted house to benefit Roots and Wings
NORWICH – Dan and Rosemary Stacy have a long history of donating their time, money and efforts locally. This Halloween finds the couple true-to-form, as they prepare to hold the first-ever Berry Street Haunted House.
The couple – who have regularly donated to the children of the community through programs such as Toys for Tots and other events – spent approximately 15 to 20 hours putting the haunted house together, according to Dan Stacy.
“It was just a whim and we wanted to do something special for the kids,” said Stacy. “We’re constantly thinking of the children and it’s a tradition for us to donate our time and our money.”
Stacy’s wife agreed, and said the two “never had a lot growing up” and that it’s really all about helping the children.
“I just figured this was something safe that the children can walk to, something right here in the city,” she added.
In the past, the couple have donated school supplies to those in need, taken local youngsters on a number of fishing trips and they annually give to Toys for Tots, among their other community efforts.
Stacy said kids can expect a little bit of everything typically associated with Halloween and haunted houses, such as mummies, witches, spiders, ghosts, goblins and a spook-filled graveyard. Children will also be presented with a small bag of goodies, added the couple.
If successful the first time around, Stacy said he and his wife would definitely consider making the Berry Street Haunted House an annual event. Hopefully, added Stacy, they’ll be able to add new dimensions to the haunted house in the future.
“If we can help out in any way, we do,” said Stacy, who, along with some helpers, will escort visitors to and from the haunted house. “We can’t do much but every little bit counts, that’s the way we look at it.”
The Berry Street Haunted House will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 31 Berry St. There is no admission fee, although the donation of a non-perishable food items will be gladly accepted. All donations will go to benefit the local Roots and Wings.
