G-MU 3, Schenevus 2
COPES CORNERS – Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton built a 2-0 lead, and survived a wild final 10 minutes to advance in the Section IV, Class D playoffs Tuesday.
Corin Todd’s goal four minutes into the second half lifted the Raiders (10-2-4) to a two-goal lead. That advantage held until the 8:25 mark when the Dragons’ Evan Dulkis connected on a shot from just inside 18 yards. Todd was able to respond for the Raiders less than a minute later. He gathered a pass from DeMario Reed, and despite getting taken down from behind, pulled himself up to tally at 7:41.
“We pretty much dominated the first 71 minutes of the game,” said Raiders coach Mark Luettger. “The response we had after their first goal was pretty awesome.”
The Raiders gave up a goal on a Schenevus cornerkick – the first goal given up on a corner all season – at the 5:59 mark. Schenevus did not threaten to score again.
“It was unfortunate that three goals for score in two minutes and 26 seconds,” Luettger said. “At this point of the season, you just want to win, and all you care about is moving on in the playoffs. We did pass the ball and play well today.”
G-MU scored the initial goal 16 1/2 minutes into the first half. Reed split the Schenevus defense after a pinpoint through pass from Greg Delaney, and Reed’s left-footed shot found the right corner of the net.
The Raiders will play either Morris or Margaretville on Friday in the second round of the playoffs.

Corey Dietrich tallied the game’s first goal with just 3:24 left in the first half, and Nate Patrick beat the Sidney defense less than two minutes later to give the Trojans (14-4) at two-goal halftime lead.
“We kept knocking on the door, but we weren’t really setting up our shots early in the game,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “We made some real quick adjustments at halftime, and came together in the second half.”
Patrick, Alex Driscoll, Alex Trass, and Tyler Hull fueled the second-half offense with insurance goals.

Mt. Markham 1, Sherburne-Earlville 0
SHERBURNE – Mt. Markham scored the game’s only goal 13 minutes into the opening half after a deflected punt, and that allowed the number 12 seeded Mustangs to advance in the Section III, Class C playoffs.
“Our girls played a solid game, but we didn’t capitalize on our shots,” said S-E coach Kylie Davis, whose club finishes 12-4. “We knew what to expect playing them a third time this year. We battled hard, but did not come out with a win.”
S-E held a slight 10-9 edge in shots on goal, and missed a golden opportunity to tie the game when a Mount Markham player received a red card for an intentional handball in the penalty box area. S-E was awarded a penalty kick, one it failed to convert.
