NHS Student Government focuses on the positive
NORWICH – The Norwich High School Student Government held a special recognition assembly Friday that focused on a number of positive activities taking place at the school, according to Advisor Joe Maiurano.
A departure from similar assemblies in the past, which concentrated primarily on athletics, the Student Government recognized organizations, individuals, clubs, programs and academic pursuits making a positive impact at the school.
“One of the initiatives of the Student Government this year was to really focus on the positive,” said Norwich High School Assistant Principal Scott Ryan. “I think that anytime you recognize the positive rather than the negative, you create an atmosphere geared toward success.”
Of particular note were the Student Government’s academic findings, said Maiurano.
Student Government Treasurer Frank Somich announced that 419 students – 61 percent of the student body – had reached the honor roll mark, a grade point average of 85 or better; 141 students – 21 percent of all students – reached the high honor roll mark of 90 or better.
