Tops Friendly Markets holds official grand re-opening
NORWICH – Approximately 50 local residents, city officials, Tops employees and members of Tops management were on hand Thursday for the official grand re-opening of the former P&C grocery store.
The store was part of a U.S. Bankruptcy Court-approved acquisition of a majority of Penn Traffic’s assets – including the P&C franchise – by Tops in late January, according to a Nov. 4 press release.
“The entire Tops team has worked very hard to ensure that our new store customers will have a more enjoyable shopping experience as they see the many changes in the setting, amenities, friendly service and promotional grocery items that our neighborhood stores will offer,” said Tops’ President and CEO Frank Curci, who attended the ribbon cutting. “We want to be active members of the community.”
As part of the ceremony – and Tops’ Living Here, Giving Here community partnership program – local Store Manager Larry Lash presented five local organizations with a charitable donation.
Catholic Charities of Chenango County, the Norwich Rotary Club, the Chenango County SPCA and the City of Norwich Police and Fire Departments each received a $500 check from Tops Friendly Markets.
“This grand opening symbolizes the merging together of the old neighborhood store and the supermarket. It is important for the entire community to have a Tops here in the City of Norwich,” stated Mayor Joe Maiurano. “Some of our residents don’t drive or have limited mobility, and need to have nearby access to quality products.”
Curci said it’s exciting for Tops Friendly Markets to return to the city and he was proud to be there for the grand re-opening.
“We will continue to serve the Norwich community and we’ll do our part to make this a better shopping experience than in the past,” he added.
