New Berlin Town budget shows slight drop in taxes for 2011

NEW BERLIN – The Town of New Berlin Board accepted a proposed $1,203,642 2011 budget Monday night which would lower taxes slightly from last year.
Though the specific increases vary by a few cents between the five different districts that make up the municipality, the average homeowner will pay about $9.23 of taxes per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The average district tax rate is down about 30 cents compared to the 2010 budget. Over all spending in the 2011 budget is 4.68 percent lower than last year’s $1,259,970.
New Berlin Supervisor Ross P. Iannello told board members the town raised nearly the same amount of money from taxpayers as last year but overall spending was down. The town is looking to raise $829,710 in tax revenues in the next fiscal year.
The town also keeps just over $320,000 saved in a various reserve funds that was not part of the 2011 budget figures.
