EOH Galleries to open two new exhibits
EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House Arts Center opens two new exhibits on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 12-3 p.m. (free). Come help us celebrate the new exhibitions that are perfect for fall: “I vaguely remember” with oil paintings by Sharon Gordon and “Along the Mohawk – A photographic journey through the heart of N.Y.S.,” by Mark Minard.
Showing in the East Gallery, Sharon Gorden’s new oil painting series, “I vaguely remember,” takes away the horizon line from her abstract landscapes, inviting the viewer into a more intimate point of view. She intends to capture and transport the viewer into a segment of a larger landscape that may be seemingly ambiguous, yet familiar. The paintings provide an opportunity to wander through passages exploring one’s whereabouts, recalling moments of time and space that may have been visited before. Sharon exhibits successfully in group and solo shows, including the Everson Museum of Art’s Biennial Exhibition. She is represented in galleries throughout the East Coast. Her painting studio and residence are in Syracuse.
In the Arts Cafe Gallery are the gelatin-silver photographic prints by Mark Minard of Munnsville. Their beauty is a reflection of Mark’s 30 years experience in traditional darkroom techniques. In Mark’s words, “The upstate region of New York, so loved by those of us who live and work here, remains unknown to many. Places rich with folklore and history still resonate despite the passage of time. Made over a time span of nearly 14 years, the photographs in this exhibition represent just one interpretation of this great state. My sincere hope is that I am able to show you, the viewer, something that you might not have seen otherwise. And for those who have seen, I hope to show anew…”
The community is invited to attend the shows, which open on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The exhibits run through January 1, 2011. The EOH galleries are open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Saturday, noon-3 p.m. Visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com or call (315) 691-3550 for more information.
Earlville Opera House events are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, and through the generosity of Earlville Opera House members.
