3rd Annual Woofstock to benefit SPCA Sunday

NORWICH – Touted by organizers as a day of representing pooches, cool cats and music, the 3rd Annual Woofstock will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Blarney Stone Pub, 26 South Broad St.
All proceeds from the event – which has drawn upwards of 100 to 120 people the past two years – will benefit the Chenango County SPCA, according to Executive Director Carol Hedlund.
The yearly fundraiser will feature a full afternoon of live entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, refreshments by SPCA board members and friends of the SPCA, and an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to the 2011 Fur Ball. Slated to perform are returning favorites Williams Road – formerly known as The Foreheads – and the Suspicious Hats, in addition to Nick and the Boys, the L.J. Gates Band and Splitrail.
As in the past, performers at Woofstock will donate their time for the fundraising effort and Suspicious Hats’ guitarist Tim Andrews said he and his bandmates are more than happy to do so.
“We’re all animal lovers, every member of the band has a pet or pets and it’s a really good time,” stated Andrews. “It gives people a chance to find out more about the SPCA and how they can help out. It gets people out to support a good cause.”
Blarney Stone owner Sarah Woods – who donates not only her time, but the pub itself for the event – said she looks forward to Woofstock every year and called it a “great cause, with great people and great music.”
Woods, along with husband Michael, will tend bar at the event and said they plan to donate all tips they receive to the SPCA.
“We really have to give a special thanks to Sarah and Mike for hosting this event once again, as well as the bands,” said SPCA Board of Directors Vice President Courtney Sullivan. “It’s always a fun time and I’m sure we’ll have some laughs, enjoy some good food and even better music.”
Woofstock T-shirts will be available for purchase, including those from the previous two fundraisers, in addition to copies of “Woofstock: The Cook Book,” which features attendees’ favorite recipes from the two previous years and homemade snack ideas for pets.
“It’s a great event and it really brings the community together,” stated Hedlund. “They support us and help us to provide for the needs of all our animals.”
Sullivan concurred and said she hoped people would make some time to visit the SPCA on East River Road.
“It’s their chance to find and take home their new best friend,” she added.
There is no cost of admission for the event, although a goodwill cash donation will be accepted at the door. For more information contact the SPCA at 334-9724 or visit www.chenangospca.org.
