Norwich branch of Morrisville State College to hold open house
NORWICH – The Norwich branch of Morrisville State College will hold its 4th annual Holiday Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Roger Follett Hall, 20 Conkey Ave., adjacent to the Eaton Center.
The yearly event will feature a wide variety of hors d’oeuvres from a number of local eateries, including Garf’s Deli, Tuller Catering, Alambria Springs Farms and the La Maison Blanche French Bakery, according to Morrisville State College Norwich Campus Dean Marsha Cornelius who, added entertainment for the Holiday Open House will be provided by the Norwich High School Jazz Band. Dunkin Donuts will provide coffee and donuts for the event.
Cornelius said the jazz ensemble was tapped to perform in an effort to draw more public attention to the local college and the services and programs it provides. In addition, she reported that those in attendance will have an opportunity to win an iPad or Kindle if they visit any table showcasing a program they may be interested in.
“The high school jazz band is such a popular group with local residents that it made sense to bring them to our open house for the first time this year,” stated Cornelius. “We’re really hoping to see a large turnout and this was the perfect way to try and make that happen.”
NHS Jazz Band Director Lansing Dimon reported this would be the 16-piece jazz ensemble’s first performance of the year and said the band will cover a variety of jazz stylings, including some holiday favorites.
“We’ll be playing a little bit of big band, a little be-bop, as well as some old standards and some holiday tunes,” stated Lansing. “The band is coming together pretty good, we’ve put together a lot of tunes rather quickly.”
The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in business, computer systems technology, accounting, liberal arts, office administration, early childhood, nursing, criminal justice and human services, reported Cornelius, and students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus. In addition, non-credit/community education courses, customized training and conference services are available.
“The goal is to really showcase the many programs we offer and we’ll have an admissions councilor, as well as a financial aid advisor, on hand for anyone with questions regarding financial aid and the financial aid process,” stated Cornelius. “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in joining us for the spring semester.”
There is no cost of admission for the Norwich Campus Holiday Open House, which is open to the public. For more information call 334-5144 or visit www.morrisville.edu.
