Greene ramps up for Hometown Holiday Weekend bike give-a-way
GREENE – Shop in Greene this week for a chance to win a new bike during Hometown Holiday Weekend. Two bikes will be given away during the community wide celebration, which commences on Friday.
According to Grace Benkovitz, executive director of the Greater Greene Chamber of Commerce, those interested in entering the contest simply need to make a purchase at a Greene merchant.
“They’re ready to meet your holiday shopping needs,” Benkovitz said, of the businesses which serve as the backbone of the GGCC. The organization takes the lead role in organizing the weekend-long holiday celebration, now in its 18th year.
Once a purchase has been made, “write your name, telephone number and ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ on the back of the receipt and drop it in any of the Hometown Holiday Weekend drawing boxes,” directed Benkovitz. Boxes are located at The Village Variety, Thomas Real Estate and McKinney Real Estate office in downtown Greene.
But that’s only the first step. To win one of the two bikes - which are currently on display at Thomas Real Estate - you must attend Greene’s Hometown Holiday Weekend.
“You must be present to claim the prize,” explained the chamber executive.
Held annually on the first weekend in December, this year’s festivities will kick off on Friday with caroling at 6:30 p.m., the Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m., and then the bike give-a-way at 7:15 p.m. in front of McKinney Real Estate. Plenty of hot cocoa and cookies will be on hand, as well.
The festive occasion will continue on Saturday with Breakfast with Santa at the First Congregational Church; activities at Moore Memorial Library; horse and wagon rides; and a spaghetti dinner at Zion Episcopal Church to benefit the Greene Food Pantry.
For more information, contact the GGCC by phone at 656-8225 or via email at info@greenenys.com.
