LAURENS – With no time left on the clock, Oxford’s Lacey Barry canned the tying and winning free throws to give her team a one-point victory over South Kortright in the finals of the Pat Grasso Tournament at Laurens Saturday night.
Oxford had the ball under its own basket with eight-tenths of a second left on the clock and no timeouts. The ball was inbounded to Barry, who was fouled as she put up a shot. “(Lacey) got open and tried to get a shot up as quick as she could,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “The South Kortright player was being aggressive in trying to prevent the shot, and hit her on the arm.”
Neither team had much success on offense, and Oxford (2-0) was at eight total points through three quarters. Jackie Heggie scored five of her team-high eight points in the last quarter helping the Blackhawks come back from four points down.
In the consolation game, Miranda Hill and Tanya Barnes combined for all but two of G-MU’s points in the second half leading the Raiders to their first win of the season.
In the first half, Bri Lambert had 12 of G-MU’s 13 points staking her club to a one-point lead.
Hill had three three-pointers in the second half to give G-MU a strong third scoring presence behind Barnes and Lambert. “(Miranda) is going to be a good weapon for us this year,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “We played two good teams to start the season and I was happy with the way we played them. It was good to get that first win under our belt.”
Oxford advanced to the finals beating Laurens by 16 points. Haley Witchella led the Blackhawks with 18 points.
G-MU was down to South Kortright by 10 points late in the third quarter, but managed to force overtime thanks to Blake Stensland’s shot in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Hill and Sabrina Brooks keyed the comeback as well hitting back-to-back three-pointers. Lambert had 11 points and Barnes 10 in the defeat.

GREENE – Greene salvaged a third-place finish in its tip-off tournament Saturday getting 19 points from Jeff Carlin, and 13 points and six rebounds from all-tournament selection Sam Adams on Saturday.
The Trojans jumped out to a 25-12 lead in the opening stanza. Carlin hit one of his three three-pointers in the game, and had 11 of his markers. “We had a lot of pressure defense, and we got out on the fast break and finished,” said Greene first-year coach Rick Smith. “Defensively, we played much better than the night before.”
Evan Moxley handed out seven assists, and Joe Beckwith chipped in with nine points.
Chenango Forks trailed Greene by one entering the final quarter final, but pulled away with a dominant 17-3 final quarter. The Blue Devils dominated the offensive glass, and made eight free throws during the quarter.
“It came down to not boxing out, and giving them second and third looks on offensive rebounds,” Smith said of the last quarter.
Steve Van Kuren had 23 points to lead Chenango Forks.
Carlin scored 11 for Greene, while Moxley and Adams had 10 apiece. Greene hosts Deposit Saturday afternoon.

WINDSOR – Norwich had the stronger individual swimmers taking eight out of 12 events, but lost ground in depth points in Friday night’s loss at Windsor.
Greg Todd (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Curtis Woodard (200 individual medley), Luke Follett (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Nick Mooney (100 breaststroke) all had individual victories for Norwich. “We have a very young team this year, and the numbers are down from last year,” said Norwich coach Jon Aikins, who did see great positives the first time out. “Everyone either came close to their personal best time or blew the doors off their time.”
Aikins cited the tremendous time drop of Scott Cihocki, who was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.32. That represent a six-second time drop from his sectionals performance from a season ago. “We are focused on being a team and supporting each other,” Aikins said. “Everyone holds each other accountable.”
Norwich is in action Dec. 17 at Johnson City.
