SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville used its full-court press and the high scoring of veterans Caitlynn Adams and Bridget Irwin to advance to the finals of its own tournament.
Playing its first game of the season, S-E jumped out to a 37-20 halftime lead. Adams had four three-pointers in the first half and 15 of her 19 points. Irwin scored 10 in the opening half, and kept the scoring pace up in the second half finishing with a game-high 21 points. Sierra Morris, playing her first varsity game, reached double figures with 10.
“Our game plan was to be aggressive with our press, and we thought an up-tempo game would play into our favor,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan.
UV (0-2) settled down in the second half, but failed to make a dent in S-E’s lead. Amanda Off led the Storm with 15 points, Charlee Weidman added 13, and Jordan Anderson scored 10.
S-E plays B-G in the finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. UV meets Hamilton in the consolation game at 2:30 p.m.
