NORWICH – Norwich started the new year with its third win in four meets defeating Chenango County rival Greene in a non-league meet Tuesday night at Echentile Natatorium.
Talon Schroeder earned a pair of individual wins for the Tornado swimming to firsts in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.42) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.81). Greg Todd also snagged a pair of victories winning the 200-yard IM (2:25.08) and 500-yard freestyle (5:49.36), while Lucas Follett picked up wins in the 100-yard freestyle (53.35) and 100-yard backstroke (1:04.60). “Tonight was a great meet and the team swam well,” said Norwich coach Jon Aikins. “Sectionals are a month away, and we’re looking forward to that.”
Chris Bay (50-yard freestyle) and Ryan Hastings (100-yard breastroke) claimed firsts for the Trojans.

Wrestling

Canastota 45, Sherburne-Earlville 39
SHERBURNE – On Sherburne-Earlville’s senior recognition night, Canastota built a big lead early on, and withstood the Marauders’ late run of victories Tuesday.
Eric Eichler (285) avenged an early-season loss to Canastota’s Jacob Morris picking up a pin in 1:49. Eichler started a run in which the Marauders concluded the matchup with wins in four of the final five matches. The only loss was a forfeit 96 pounds as S-E starter Kevin Dunshee was out of the lineup due to illness.
“It was a great match for us and Canastota has done really well this year,” said S-E assistant coach, Brian Hicks.
Senior Greg DuVall (152) remained unbeaten on the season with a second-period pin. Also grabbing pinfall victories were Jack Buell at 119 pounds and Dalton Nelson at 140. Calvin Minkler won by decision at 103 pounds.
The other two S-E seniors recognized were Steve Young and Alec Sheddon.

EARLVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville raised its record to 7-1 on the season blanking Cooperstown Tuesday afternoon at Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville.
Chad Potter rolled a team-high 704 series to lead S-E, and Mike Wilson added a 600 triple. The Marauders are at West Canada Valley today.
