Oxford 70, Afton 20
OXFORD – Playing the first of three games in three days, Oxford rolled past visiting Afton Thursday in a make-up from Tuesday night.
Haley Witchella scored 21 points for Oxford, 17 in the first half as Oxford roared to a 41-8 advantage. The Blackhawks had eight points in the second quarter from reserve Lacey Barry, who finished the night with a varsity-high 16.
“We played the way we hoped to,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer, who said his team committed just eight turnovers in the game. “We wanted to get a lot of people into the the game, and everyone played a decent amount.”
Everyone in the Oxford lineup also found the scoring column. Julie Heggie added 14 points in the win for the Blackhawks, who moved into a tie for fourth in the Midstate Athletic Conference with Sidney. The Blackhawks host the Warriors tonight, then entertain Bainbridge-Guilford Saturday afternoon.
“It’s an important game for us (Friday),” Palmer said. “Step one was tonight, and step two is Friday.”
