DVD Patrol

Time to fly, Patrollers! Besides all of the snow in the air, the DVD Patrol is braving all the cold to get the latest movies and TV shows out for the new year. The man with his head in the clouds, the Toddster, is staying warm to keep on top of the latest. Hope everyone made it through the holidays and enjoyed some picks for this year. Here we go with this week’s latest and greatest.

New on DVD

Takers - Doing a job too well can be stressful at times. Just ask Detective Jack Welles (Matt Dillon). Jack has been investigating a series of crimes being committed. He’s vowed to take them out. Jesse (Chris Brown), AJ (Hayden Christensen), Gordon (Idris Elba), and John (Paul Walker) always been able to get in and out without any trouble or making mistakes. However, when a job comes their way and they find out that Jack is hot on their trail, they may find that things aren’t as easy as they’re used to. Will Jack be able to take them down or will the gang get away with their last job? Walker is getting ready to hit the road with Vin Diesel in the fifth installment of “Fast Five” (or The Fast and the Furious 5) and Christensen has a new thriller where everyone has disappeared in “Vanishing on 7th Street” coming in February.

Buried - A lot of us all have pressing problems that we have to take care of at times. Talk to Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) and he’ll really tell you what things are really like. Paul has taken a job driving a truck over in Iraq as part of a mission to help out the people. He get kidnapped by terrorists. To keep him hidden, they bury him so no one can find him. Paul only has a little time to find a way out and uses his cell phone to let them know where he is. Will Paul find a way out? Reynolds is currently working on a new comedy with Sandra Bullock. More on this as it develops!

Also on DVD

Justified - There are still those who still believe in old fashion justice and even a touch of the Old West kind. U.S Marshall Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) came from a small town in Kentucky but never thought he would become an officer of the law. After a few years have passed, Raylan goes to Miami to confront a criminal but draws on him and ends up killing him. To punish him, the service sends Raylan back to Kentucky because he’s too valuable to lose. It comes to his attention that one of his old friends Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) has become a criminal and Raylan knows that something will eventually happen to one of them. What will Raylan do next? Season 1 is available with Season 2 starting in February on FX.

Stingray - People will do things for the strangest reasons. From Stephen J Cannell (The A Team, Renegade), a new hero emerges. For this guy, the only reason that’s his is fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves. Meet Ray (Nick Mancuso), running around in his custom Stingray corvette, no one knows much about him except for the fact when he needs a favor, you give him what he needs and no questions asked. In the pilot episode, Ray comes to the aid of a beautiful attorney who needs his help to find out who hurt a friend of hers that was getting ready to prosecute a case against a high level criminal. Can Ray find the evidence he needs to help her and bring those responsible to justice? The complete series is now available in stores with another series of Cannell’s called “Renegade” as a complete set is available as well.

Alpha and Omega - It seems like finding someone you have nothing in common with may not always be such a bad thing. Cartoon Spotlight has a new one with a wolf named Humphrey (Justin Long). He lives the good life playing video games with his pals. Kate (Hayden Penettiere) lives in another part of the forest where she is used to getting her way and hunting as part of the pack. Some Park Rangers find them and think they have to be relocated. To get back home, they’ll have to team up and find that they have to so something that might not be so easy. Depend on someone else for help. Can they find their way back? Penettiere is getting ready to join Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox for an all new scare fest as “Scream 4” comes to theaters on April 15

Let’s slow down for this week because next week a lot more including a couple of reviews that the Toddster has been taking a look at. Namely, “Tron: Legacy” and “The Green Hornet.” Also, before we go, a Happy Birthday goes out to one of our Patrol posse. Happy Birthday, Brian! Lots of good stuff on the way with our next teamup coming. The Toddster shall be back!
