G-MU's Johnson, Barnes reach milestones

G-MU 46, Franklin 42
FRANKLIN – G-MU coach Jim Johnson said it was “carbon copy of the other night, only the final score went our way.”
Johnson, in his 32nd season as a varsity girls coach, reached a victory milestone earning his 400th career victory, and senior Tanya Barnes, a four-year player for Johnson, also reached a scoring benchmark topping the 1,000-point barrier.
Barnes’ milestone came at a crucial time as she tossed in a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 44-39 with under a minute to play. Barnes needed 26 points for 1,000, and she scored 28 to match her season-high performance.
“Tanya’s 1,000th point came when we really needed it,” Johnson said, who as usual deflected attention from his own achievement. “Franklin is a tough team, and we not only had to play well to win, we had to come from way back to do it.”
