Under new management, Colonia Theater will remain open

NORWICH – Since its construction in the early 20th century, the Colonia Theater has remained one of downtown’s most historic and iconic symbols. As a lifelong Norwich resident, new Colonia general manager Jeanie Barnes said she and her family couldn’t bear to see the beloved theater close its doors again.

Partnered with father Richard, who relocated to Norwich approximately 30 years ago to raise a family, Barnes officially took over as manager at the start of 2011.

“We grew up in this theater and it’s something we all loved,” said Barnes of her family’s time in the Colonia. “I just finished graduate school and I decided to help dad with the transition.”

In the meantime, Barnes said she and her family are looking to offer new programming at the theater, including a unique after-school activity for local children – Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Xbox Kinect on the big screen.
