DVD Patrol

Let’s build a little bit, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has been a little bust enjoying the winter just a tad. Remember when you were a kid and you tried to build an igloo out of the big snowpile? Your architect. the Toddster, is a bit big for that now but we’re doing something else just for you. We hope everyone is surviving the cold. Here are a few options to come in from the cold.

New on DVD

Let Me In - We’ve all met someone new to the neighborhood in our lives and they just might turn out to be all right. Not in this case however. Owen (Kodi Smit-Mcphee) was just your average kid who minded his own business but was always the target of bullies. He didn’t let it bother him though. One day, Owen notices some tenants who move in next door. A young girl named Abby (Chloe Grace Moretz) seemed kind of quiet at first but as time goes on decides to become Owen’s friend. Her adopted Father (Richard Jenkins) seemed to be a bit scary too. Strange things begin to happen as murders begin to plague the town and Abby seems to know something about them. Owen discovers that his new friend may not be as nice as he first thought. What could Abby be hiding and what does it mean for Owen? My sources tell me that Moretz may be getting ready for “Kick Ass 2.” More on this as it develops.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 - Papi (George Lopez) and his pals are big for another big adventure. In the first one, Papi discovered Chloe (Odette Yustman) was his soulmate and had to have her and they lived happily after. Now they’re back and Papi and Chloe have an even bigger job than before. They now have a family. With Ali, Lala, Rose, and Pep, Papi is going to need all the backup he can get when he discovers that his owners parents are going to be evicted from their home. Can the team find a way to stop this from happening? Check out Papi’s first adventure “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” now on DVD. Some other DVDs starring Lopez include “The Spy Next Door” (with Jackie Chan), “Balls of Fury” (starring Maggie Q from “Nikita”), and “Marmaduke” ( with Owen Wilson).

Also on DVD

Alice In Wonderland - Cartoon Spotlight has something very special this week with the 60th anniversary edition of this classic cartoon being released once again from Disney. You know the old saying about curiosity? Alice is enjoying her day when she sees a rabbit who keeps yelling he’s late and then she falls down the rabbit hole. Nothing could prepare her for what hppens next. She falls into the magical World of Wonderland where she meets a number of eccentric characters in her journey as she tries to find a way back home. Everyone from the mad hatter and crazy caterpillars to meeting the Red Queen makes her trip interesting to say the least. Will Alice find her way back? These new releases don’t last long so you’ll want to pick up a copy quick and Disney does put the movies from time to time. Also, a friend of Disneys, called Pixar have an all adventure of “Cars 2” being released in theaters this Summer.

Conviction - A love for your family is a great motivator for Justice. Based on a true story, Betty Anne Waters (Hilary Swank) and her brother Kenny (Sam Rockwell) had a rough life as they grew up but always leaned on one another. That bond would be tested like never before when Kenny is arrested for murder but he claims he didn’t do it. Betty is determined to free him but she doesn’t even have a high school diploma. She studies hard to get a GED and goes to law school to become a lawyer. She gets noticed by one of the lawyers who defended OJ Simpson (Peter Gallagher) and he tells her if she can find evidence on his case, they might be able to find a way to free him. Can Betty free her brother and prove he’s innocent? Swank has quite a body of work to choose from and by checking the Patrol Vault, check out “Freedom Writers,” “PS I Love You” (with Gerard Butler), and “Million Dollar Baby (starring Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman) all available on DVD in stores now.

Airwolf - TV Spotlight returns with an all new season of one of the Toddster’s favorite shows. Stringfellow Hawke (Jan Michael Vincent) returns again to fight justice flying the skies in the super helicopter known as Airwolf equipped with all kinds of weapons and can fly at speeds that rival the fastest jets. As Season 4 opens, Hawke receives evidence that his brother St. John (Barry Van Dyke) is still alive. After Hawke is critically injured and his partner Dominic is killed, it falls to Jo (Michelle Scarabelli) and her new partners Mike (Geraint Wyn Davies) and Jason Locke (Anthony Sherwood) to rescue St. John. Will the team find a way to bring back String’s long lost brother? Season 4 is now available on DVD with Seasons 1-3 in stores now.

We’re winding down for this week. Looks like Progress is slowing down because the Teamup we’ve been promising is very close. Also, make sure you check out our next review for “The Mechanic” starring Jason Statham in the next couple of weeks. The Toddster shall return.
