Episcopal Church to host second annual Hymn-Sing

NORWICH – The Emmanuel Episcopal Church will host its second annual, non-denominational Valentine’s Day Hymn-Sing – A Celebration of Love – at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Church, 37 W. Main St.

Episcopal congregations throughout the county have been invited to attend the community event, which saw approximately 50 participants last year, according to the local church’s organist, Carolyn McMaster. In addition, Lutheran Pastor and Head of the Ministerium Reverend Thomas Olson has invited all other local churches and ministries to take part.

“Music is the praise of God in song and expressing one’s personal feeling in relationship with God in song,” said Episcopal Minister Charles Taylor. “From beginning to end, the Bible is full of music; it’s natural to praise God and music allows us to express it in a very meaningful way. The power of music has the ability to embed words deeply into our hearts.”

The hymn-sing will feature a special, ecumenical performance – including all faiths – directed by Broad Street United Methodist Choir Director and Oxford music teacher Mike Moren. Rehearsal for that performance will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
